The intense preview of Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 13 reveals the Dutton family’s power struggles and the involvement of the FBI.

Stories from the Bunkhouse (Ep. 41) | Yellowstone | Paramount Network - YouTube

The latest episode of Yellowstone killed off another fan-favorite character, saw Rip (Cole Hauser) attempting to save the ranch, and let Kayce (Luke Grimes) count coup. With only one episode remaining until the fifth and final season finale, however, we’ve got a feeling that Taylor Sheridan’s hit Western drama is about to seriously up the ante.

The unexpected Season 5, Episode 12, “Counting Coup” death further shook the already fragile ranch hands and Dutton family.

While the tragic accident may have brought Beth (Kelly Reilly) closer to Carter (Finn Little), it’s clear that the business challenges and personal problems between Beth, Kayce, and Jamie (Wes Bentley) not only remain, but must be dealt with — and ideally resolved — over the next two weeks.

At the end of the eventful episode, a short preview for Episode 13 aired, giving viewers a first look at the drama, conflict, and emotional encounters that lie ahead.

So what does Yellowstone‘s penultimate episode have in store? Here’s a frame-by-frame breakdown of Paramount Network’s newest Episode 513 teaser trailer ahead of the premiere on Sunday, December 8. Be warned: Spoilers lie ahead.

Whats In The Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 12 Preview?

The latest look at Yellowstone Season 5’s final two episodes kicked off with a heated exchange between Rip and Beth. “How am I supposed to run a ranch if you sell everything we own?” Rip asked his wife. “There is no solution,” Beth replied. “We’re just buying time.”

As you’ll recall, Episode 12 saw Rip trying to sell animals from the ranch with the help of Travis (Taylor Sheridan), but it seems that Beth may raise the stakes going forward. Is she right to think there’s no way to save the land and her father’s dream? Or will she and Rip figure something out in the last second with help from allies like Travis and Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham)?

With only one episode remaining until the season finale of Yellowstone, the series is unsurprisingly keeping its major scenes locked down, so a lot remains unknown. What the Episode 12 preview did give viewers is another a look at a stressed Beth, a first look at what appears to be an upcoming horse show/auction, and a potentially hopeful exchange between Rip and Lloyd (Forrie J. Smith) .

In one clip, Rip tells Lloyd “I want you to stay home,” to which Lloyd replies, “Ain’t anything to stay home for.” Despite the grim circumstances, Rip assures him, “Yeah there is. When we build it back.” Again — is Rip in denial or does he have a real plan up his sleeve?

After Kayce counted coup in Episode 12, we hoped that the major threats to the Dutton family — at least in relation to the hit Sarah (Dawn Olivieri) hired on John Dutton (Kevin Costner) — were neutralized, but the Episode 13 preview showed a rattled Kayce telling Monica (Kelsey Asbille), “What happens if they come after you, or Tate, or any of us?”

We later see Monica and Tate sitting in a truck, a determined Beth walking through a house, and Rip shooting a withering stare while wearing sunglasses and a cowboy hat. We also get a glimpse of a car speeding through the night with what appears to be smoke trailing behind it.

We see Kayce and Monica making their way through a crowd of people. And crucially, we see Jamie walking through a building in front of several FBI agents. Looks like Dillard (Rory Cochrane) might make good on his threat to get a warrant…

Before Sarah’s death, Yellowstone made it seem like Beth and Sarah would be going head-to-head in battle throughout the rest of the season, but now that Sarah’s out of the picture, Beth can focus all her takedown efforts on Jamie.

The Episode 13 preview once again shows Beth asking “You having fun yet?” into her phone, but instead of Sarah on the other end of the line (like edits previously led us to believe), Jamie replied, “You destroy me, you destroy yourself.”

While Beth carries confidence in the phone call, the penultimate episode’s preview ends by suggesting that she may be caught off guard in the future.

The final shot shows Beth standing inside a house with her hands on her hips. With her back facing a sliding glass door, the teaser shows a man outside approaching the house from behind.

There’s a possibility that the spook is yet another red herring and the shadowy figure is just Rip — but there’s also a chance Beth is unknowingly in danger.

Will Jamie go down? Will Beth lose it all? Or will Yellowstone opt for the mutually assured destruction route that Jamie keeps teasing? As always, we’ll have to wait and see what Sheridan has in store for Yellowstone‘s final hours. Until then, catch up on Decider’s Yellowstone coverage.
