“Wanted to hop on & wish everyone happy holidays,” wrote McCoy, who plays Josslyn Jacks on the series. “I think I’m gonna take some time off of Twitter, but first needed to give thanks for any of the support within the last few weeks. Been a strange year, but I still feel very lucky. Wishing everyone reading this love and health.”
While there was no official reason given for McCoy being temporarily being replaced, last month the 20-year-old actress revealed her mother had died of cancer.
“My mother has fought an intense battle with cancer for the past two and a half years and has now left us physically. I’m not sure what to say other than she was, is, and will be the best thing I have ever known,” McCoy wrote in an Instagram post.
After winning a Daytime Emmy last week, McCoy paid tribute to her mother onstage while accepting her award.
“This is for and because of my mother,” McCoy said. “It’s not lost on me what an absolute privilege it is to be able to do something, not only I like to do but love to do for a living, and I love what I do. It’s really easy to be grateful on nights like this, but I am grateful every day.”
She also posted a photo on Instagram thanking her GH castmates.
“Words can’t describe the gratitude I feel…I just want to say thank you for the best 8 years to my General Hospital family….thank you for letting me be a tiny FRACTION of your incredible legacy,” she wrote.
McCoy then paid tribute to her mom, simply writing, “For you, mommy!!!”
A spokesperson for GH tells Deadline McCoy will return at the beginning of the new year.
