What – and who – could be really responsible?
Sam’s out-of-the-blue tragic General Hospital death has devastated Port Charles, from fiance Dante to kids Danny and Scout to siblings Kristina, Molly, and Lucas to exes Jason and Drew. But the person most horribly crushed by the tragedy is Sam’s mom, Alexis. The news completely crushed her. And that was before she suspected she might be the one who killed her daughter.
Back in Time
As far as GH viewers are concerned, Sonny (Maurice Benard) killed Agent Jagger (Adam J. Harrigan). There is, of course, always the possibility that a decent, moral monster like him could have never done such a thing.
But, in the meantime, decent, moral Sonny allowed Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) to be arrested for the crime. Viewers know she was only protecting her daughter, Kristina (Kate Mansi), whom Alexis covered up for by dropping the gun she thought Kristina used to do it in the Port Charles river, which is where Sam (Kelly Monaco) comes in.
Hope Floats
As soon as Sam, an expert diver, offered to go looking for the gun so she could prove her mom’s innocence, her cause of death seemed a foregone conclusion. We assumed she’d drown trying. She didn’t. But that doesn’t mean the diving wasn’t responsible for her ultimate demise.
Sick Days
Diving forms bubbles in the blood. It’s what’s referred to as “the bends.” And these little bubbles can cause an embolism, which can get into your brain and cause a stroke. Or get into your heart…and cause failure.
Surgery does not make the condition better. In fact, it makes it much, much worse. An expert diver like Sam should know that. She should have given her surgeon a heads-up so they could run more tests. She didn’t. And now she’s dead.
Blame Game Name
So, yes, sure, Sam is to blame if that happened. But will that be relevant to Alexis if the autopsy Kristina is so against shows that an air bubble caused Sam’s death she picked up while diving…to help clear Alexis’ name?
We thought we had seen her sobbing and thrashing before. That’s nothing compared to what we could be in for!
