Dominic admits that this was one good-bye that he certainly didn’t want to say.
He told Soap Opera Digest in a new interview, “My monologues were her last scenes, so we finished those scenes and I basically said good-bye to Kelly then and there. She was amazing. Amazing, amazing, amazing.”
And while Dom was used to working with Kelly since 2009, the two of them didn’t get close until their characters did back in 2021.
Kelly began playing her character, Sam McCall, on October 1, 2003. It was reported earlier this summer that the actress was absolutely blindsided when she found out that she was getting fired on the show.
He said, “You become fast friends with people that you work with like that. You’re in the trenches of 14, 15-hour days and shooting nights and everyone in the crew becomes like family, your castmates become like family — you argue and love each other like family do, and the three-and-a-half years that we were together on the show were a big, important time of my life and in my character’s life.”

“And I got to know Kelly in a way that I’d never known her before. And she’s a remarkable person. She’s tough as nails and admirable in so many ways, and it’s been cool to become a friend of hers.”
“And that won’t end. It’s just that there is still an ending because you’re not working with someone anymore.”
Meanwhile, Kelly herself has not made any comments about the matter, her mother Carmina Monaco did share a heartfelt post on social media for her fans.
She said, “I want to take this moment to reach out to Kelly’s incredible fans and express my deepest gratitude for the unwavering love, loyalty, and support you’ve shown her throughout her time on General Hospital.”
